Beyond pity

Poor Rick Perry

Dec 9th 2011, 23:12 by Lexington

RICK PERRY is only human, so you might be inclined to overlook his inability to remember the name of one of the nine judges on the Supreme Court, and maybe also his ignorance of the fact that there are indeed nine judges and not eight (the latest excruciating video is here). But if he cannot remember those things, you do begin to wonder whether he is familiar enough with the jurisprudence of Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan to declare quite so dogmatically that they are "activist". Moreover, I'm finding it harder to feel much sympathy for the Texas governor since he he embarked on his unpleasant campaign against gays. His ad on gays is now one of the most-disliked videos on YouTube.  For readers with the appetite, Vanity Fair has published an intriguing profile of the governor. Bottom line: he's less nice than he looks, but also more "resilient". I wonder.

I think a lot of the gay community has low self-esteem. I am tired of people being selfish (and this is not the gay community I am addressing either) and only out for themselves. Why not flush kids down the toilet? I also hate feminism and my career - I had it better as an upper middle class woman marrying a wealthy man - I am certainly NOT better off than my mother or GRANDMOTHERS! The feminists sold me a shoddy bill of goods. I am pro-black and hispanic too. Call me when you get Mengistu back, cause that's where its going again. A sensitive boy has low self-esteem and the culture will poop him down the toilet. I had a crush on a guy who ended up becoming "gay", he was much nicer than the bums we worked with, and I think he became gay because he is nice and he is ugly. The other people had such a host of "other" more grievious issues like drug dealing and screwing people over at work, that I don't concentrate on that, but at 19 I really liked him and if I had known where it was going to go then, things might have ended up differently. The whole society is broken - not just gay. Last century needs to be deconstructed and analyzed before you figure out what the problem is with this one. In Northeastern America I would not have and did not have children in a society that I believe no longer tolerates them, a society where people are more interested in pursuing their own selfish interests rather than a child's. When I was a little girl I dreamt of the children I would have and the man I would marry - that got taken away by everyone else's SELFISH choices. What benefits me and screw you is not a motto to live by. The Brits were always tolerant of uniqueness, and I know homosexuality has always been more tolerated by your culture, and I love the late Nigel Hawthorne and John Gielgud, and I believe in a "look the other way" for a great actor or personality or intellect - they are not the norm, however. Sometimes we have to consider the whole of society that does not know which end is up and keep some things to ourselves. Am I my brother's or sister's keeper? Unfortunately in many cases, yes. I also resent as a biologically different entity of being made a man because I have to live up to what daddy did. I grew up in a feminist household so I know firsthand what I am talking about. Simone DeBovoir and Gloria Steinem and Jiang Qiang did not fight for me, they did not represent my interests.

I dont know Rick Perry too much, generally speaking, I do not who the Rick Perry. according the author saying in the article, Rick Perry maybe have a bad momory. that is not a big problem. everyone will face the same problem, espcticially for the older.as an ordinary person from China. I sampathy for the Texas governor, Rick Petty. regarding the ignorance of the fact that there are indeed nine judges not eight, indeed Rick Petty made a small mistake, but people should not wonder whether he is familiar enough with the jurisprudence of Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan. i think he only do not remember such details.

If I owned a gay bar, I would start selling jackets like the one perry wears in the video.

The irony alone would make it all worthwhile.

Mad Hatter

We had one gawd-nut from Texas in the White House and he was a disaster. I hope we are not "stoopid" enough to elect another.

I am obviously not gawd fearing, but I am really fear the people who are.

I, too, wonder, Lexington. But what I wonder about is, whether some of the Texas 'Bushies', who really do not like Gov.Perry, put him, Perry, up to running for president. They knew that the best, and lasting, way to destroy Perry is to let the whole nation get acquainted with this intellectual giant; and his ideas about the nation, the world, statecraft, world history and world economy and the like. Well, we made our acquaintance with Gov.Perry and his mind (or what passes for it in Texas). And, yes, we are very fortunate that his daddy was not a former president of the US...

St. Teilo

You forgot about the fact that he dumbs down the televised debates every time he opens his gob. A remarkable achievement considering we had Herman Cain and still have Bach and Newty.

"He's less nice than he looks, but also more 'resilient'. I wonder."
I sure don't.

Re Texas, though: Less nice than it looks, and very, very resilient.

Rick Perry is as dumb as a bag of hammers. And I may be insulting the hammers.

Regardless of belief, to think that the most important issue in this election which will attract the coveted independent voter is gays in the military when the economy is dreadful and the President wants to drive the country off a cliff because he's sure he knows the directions...well that's just insane.

But I'm comforted by Perry's low, low poll numbers and the knowledge he will never be president. I can't wait for actual primaries so he will drop out.

eroteme in reply to silencedogood20

He will drop out but the mere fact of his presence in the debates drags them towards extremism and means that the chance of a real talented center right Republican being nominated is reduced. After all the most popular current candidate is Newt- simply cause he looks reasonable vs Perry or Bachmann or Tancredo etc

Faedrus

Being a God-fearing Christian, I'm sure Perry (and Gingrich, Bachmann and Santorum) know this one:

"Do not judge, or ye too will be judged." (Mathew 7:1)

And this one:

"And let he without sin cast the first stone". (John 8:7)

And this one:

"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs." (1 Corinthians 13:4,5)

Or, maybe not...

"Bottom line: he's less nice than he looks..."

Not from my view. He's about as unnice as he feels to me. Same vibe as Cheney, but with Shrub's native intelligence.

Doug Pascover

But can he name the nine fruits of the holy spirit?

Anglicus

The more and more his chances diminish, the more and more Perry will appeal to the more radical elements of his part. Nothing much shocking there.

LaContra

There was one clever comment posted after the video:

Well technically he may be right. There are 8 justices and then there's Clarence Thomas.

Anti-Goethist in reply to anticommunist

@anticommunist: "If he was a liberal all of you would be complaining about racism... Don't be so double-standard..."

Are you confusing Rick Perry with Herman Cain, perhaps? Perry's whiter-than-white, holier-than-thou and ready-for-rogering in his homophobic jacket.
